A couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to step away from the daily grind and visit my parents and family in Puerto Rico. It was extra special because I got to experience it with my teenage boys, while my husband stayed back home alone. Our adult daughter was in Florida, so it was just us and the beautiful island.
As soon as I arrived, the sunshine greeted me. The 80-degree weather was a refreshing change from the freezing 20-degree mornings back home! I took in the sights around me—colorful birds fluttering by a sweet stray cat my brother befriended, and the breathtaking view from my parents’ backyard. It truly reminded me of how vast and beautiful God’s creation is.
More Than Just Scenery
The trip was nothing short of magical. We spent time at the beach, visited a bioluminescent bay, stayed at a cute motel by the shore, and explored the wonders of the island. But what really made this trip special wasn’t just the stunning landscape—it was the family.
I loved watching my boys interact with my parents. Seeing the joy on my mom’s face as she made breakfast for the kids, or watching my dad’s amazed expressions as he marveled at how much they had grown, filled my heart with gratitude.
There were quiet moments too—like when my brother and I shared coffee, reminiscing about our childhood. Then, every evening, my other brother, his wife, and kids would come over. We’d play dominoes, share stories, and laugh. That’s what family is all about—the love, the support, and simply being together. These moments remind me of how often we take the little things for granted. We get caught up in the hustle of everyday life, forgetting to pause and appreciate the simple blessings around us.
Why Taking a Break Matters
Taking a break isn’t just a luxury—it’s necessary. Life can be so busy. Between work, family, church, and community commitments, we often run ourselves into the ground. Taking time off doesn’t just refresh us physically. It recharges us spiritually and emotionally too. It gives us the space to refocus, gain perspective, and reconnect with the people we love most.
In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus invites us to rest:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
This verse is a beautiful reminder that rest isn’t just about taking a break from work—it’s about resting in Him. Those quiet moments away from the chaos help us reconnect with our inner peace and feel the love and grace God has for us.
Take a Break, Recharge, and Reflect
I encourage you to find time in your life to take a break. Step away from the demands, even if it’s just for a weekend getaway or a day spent with loved ones. Focus on what matters most—family, rest, and time with the Lord. These moments are so refreshing, and they’ll help you see your life with a new, thankful perspective.
Let this be your reminder: It’s okay to take a step back, breathe, and refuel. Life is busy, but in the busyness, don’t forget to refresh. Your soul will thank you for it.
May God bless you with the peace and rest you need today. ✨
